Need

Why is the North I‑215 Project Needed?

Traffic congestion continues to increase along I‑215, especially during peak morning and evening commute hours. Although this project unfortunately will not relieve all of the future traffic congestion that is forecast to occur, the eventual widening of the freeway will help reduce traffic delays, gasoline consumption and pollutants.

The project will help meet the transportation needs created by the area’s current and future population and business needs, facilitate the movement of people and goods and provide a more effective connection between San Diego County and Riverside County. A number of project savings also are anticipated for the highway network:

  • Vehicle delays saved per day — 6,900 hours
  • Gasoline saved per day — 3,000 gallons
  • Pollutants saved per year — 36 tons
