Process

What is the Process for the North I‑215 Project?

Transportation projects have many phases that are required by law before they can be implemented. The North I‑215 Project has been the subject of a Project Study Report that was completed in May 2008. The next phase of work will involve preparing a Project Report and environmental technical reports. The technical reports will include the results of the following studies:

  • Current and future traffic conditions
  • Conditions of existing roadways and structures
  • Freeway onsite drainage and the accommodation of offsite drainage that must cross the freeway
  • Compliance with Riverside County’s Multi-Species Habitat Conservation Plan
  • Water quality studies
  • Impacts to residents and businesses
  • Visual impacts
  • Noise impacts
  • Air quality
  • Plants and wildlife
  • Historic and cultural impacts
  • Updated cost estimates

These reports will help the project obtain clearance through the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Once these state and federal approvals are received, final engineering design and necessary right-of-way acquisition can take place. When this work is completed, construction can begin.

An estimate project schedule is available on the Schedule page.
