Process

What is the Process for the South I‑215 Project?

Transportation projects have many phases that are required by law before they can be implemented. The initial stage is the Project Study Report. The South I‑215 Project Study Report was completed in December 2006. In late 2008, the Project Report and environmental technical reports were completed in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act. The technical reports include the results of the following studies:

  • Current and future traffic conditions
  • Conditions of existing roadways and bridges
  • Freeway onsite drainage and the accommodation of offsite drainage that must cross the freeway
  • Compliance with Riverside County’s Multi-Species Habitat Conservation Plan
  • Water quality studies
  • Impacts to residents and businesses
  • Visual impacts
  • Noise impacts
  • Air quality
  • Plants and wildlife
  • Historic and cultural impacts
  • Updated cost estimates

The next step in the process is final engineering design, which began in early 2009 and should be complete by late 2010. Construction should begin in early 2011.

An estimated project schedule is available on the Schedule page.
